Althea protocol is a platform and payment layer that is deployed and powering networks in ten states, in twelve localities. The platform can be used to create new networks (ISPs) or expand existing ones, and uses a unique protocol that incentivizes/rewards users who provide antennas or other infrastructure, by paying them for the traffic that they forward. Network usage is metered, so users do not need contracts, in fact they can use the network anonymously by simply adding funds to their Althea router.
The Althea L1 blockchain (Cosmos SDK) which powers Althea Protocol is live, and there are some exciting releases coming up in the near horizon such as ALTHEA DEX and expanded use of the protocol to decentralize and tokenize other types of network infrastructure (fiber pipes, etc.) and physical infrastructure.
That's the quick and dirty intro to Althea. If you happen to be covering anything DePIN related going forward, we'd love to contribute to the conversation. I sent an email at some point about this as well.
